Umbrian delight

We visited il Granaio for the first time last week and would love to go back as soon as we can! The building itself, a converted grain store, has been sensitively converted to a modern and stylish abode which has everything you need - including beautiful views. The grounds were immaculate and the marble pool was big enough for actual lengths!

Both the owner and her manager/ housekeeper were both helpful and friendly, and always ready to answer all our queries. The welcome basket was very much appreciated and drinking wine and using the olive oil from the vineyards was a delicious bonus.

We weren't as lucky with the sun as we wished this week, yet despite this, there was enough to do, as the property was situated so well - only 1hr from Sienna, near a train station to get you to Florence/ even Rome, and beautiful medieval hill top towns like Cortona and Montepulciano only 30 mins away. The beautiful lake Trasimeno was only 10 mins away. A car is essential.

All in all, we had a wonderful time - a great place, amazing food, and beautiful countryside - what more can you ask for?

Our time in "il Granaio" has been as peaceful as memorable both for us and our little children. A place of understated elegance with sofisticated attention to details . The kids loved not having to share the pool with strangers like in previous holidays, and we enjoyed making the most of the great location on the boarder between Umbria and Toscany, visiting stunning places like Montepulciano, towns around the lake Trasimeno, Cortona, Perugia, and others... The house is full of modern comforts for all needs.. I'm Italian and my husband is English, so we have great experience in holiday accommodations in both countries, where usually there would be some compromising in the kitchen department, but here there was absolutely everything, from the kettle to the Italian coffee maker and so on.. The person in charge of the place, although she doesn't live on site, is always available for advice or help, very useful and helpful Lady. We totally recommend this place and hopefully we'll be back soon, grazie e ciao!

Perfect! Great cottage, relaxing location

Il Graniao was the perfect cottage for us. Beautifully fitted out with all you could need and everything appeared to be new. The double height lounge gave a great sense of space and was delightfully cool from the Umbrian summer heat. Great shaded outdoor eating area with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside and a nearby hill town in the distance. Fantastic swimming pool with loungers to relax in the shade of the trees. Very quiet rural location, the only sounds we heard were the odd farmer working in the surrounding fields. Idillic rural Umbrian setting. The nearby village was quaint although limited to a small but adequate supermarket. The nearest larger town was a 10 minute drive away with large supermarkets, chemists, etc., as well as being having an enchanting fortified hilltop old town to explore and as a base to discover lake Trasimeno. We caught the train from the nearby station into Florence for the day - very convenient and relaxing, without any parking issues. Perugia was 40 minutes away; although somewhat challenging to find parking, was well worth a days visit - make sure you discover the hidden underground city! Highly recommended.

Umbrian Gem

Il Granaio was a really lucky find for my family and I. We had left booking our summer break to rather late in the season and were therefore amazed to find such a beautiful property as Il Granaio. This is a cottage in the grounds of a really splendid villa on a wonderful wine farm. Apart from the 2 friendly gardeners we had the place to ourselves as the owners rent the small villa out when they are not there. Really tranquil setting with fantastic garden and pool. Il Graniao is a beautifully furnished villa and we could not have wished for a better holiday. Thanks to Irene the local agent who met us and was so helpful and friendly. We never met the owner Ceri in person but she was always very responsive and dealt with all our email enquiries etc in a most professional manner. Small touches such as wine and olive oil from the estate and groceries on arrival were really welcome. We also loved the area and Lake Trasimeno. Well positioned as we were keen to explore the countryside and visit towns like Montepulciano , sienna etc. Would definitely come back and highly recommend this property. Surpassed our expectations!
